Day 1: Kigali – Akagera National Park & Sunset Boat Safari
You will be picked up in Kigali in the morning for a scenic drive east to Akagera National Park, arriving in time for check-in and lunch at your lodge. In the late afternoon, head to Lake Ihema for a relaxing sunset boat safari, where hippos, crocodiles, and rich birdlife gather along the shores as the sun sets over the savannah. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Conservation in Action – Walk the Fence & Community Experience
After breakfast, take part in the Walk the Fence experience, a guided walk along Akagera’s electric perimeter fence led by trained rangers. The walk covers approximately 3–4 kilometers and lasts about 2 to 3 hours at a gentle pace. During the walk, you will learn how the fence functions, observe monitoring points, and gain firsthand insight into how this vital conservation tool reduces human–wildlife conflict while protecting both animals and neighboring communities. Expect an educational, immersive experience with opportunities to ask questions and understand conservation from the ground up.
Later, visit a nearby community to connect with local residents and learn about daily life, traditional practices, and how conservation and tourism contribute to sustainable livelihoods around the park. Return to the lodge in the afternoon for lunch and time to relax, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3: Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari, Full-Day Game Drive & Night Safari at Karenge
For those seeking a truly memorable start to the day, an optional hot air balloon safari is available at dawn, offering breathtaking aerial views of Akagera’s lakes, rolling plains, and wildlife as the park awakens. After breakfast, embark on a full-day game drive, gradually making your way north through diverse habitats and prime wildlife areas, with excellent opportunities to spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, lions, rhinos, and a variety of antelope species.
By late afternoon, arrive at the remote and intimate Karenge Bush Camp and settle into the wilderness setting as daylight fades. After sunset, head out on a guided night game drive, when nocturnal species such as leopards, hyenas, civets, genets, and bushbabies become active. Return to camp later in the evening for dinner under the stars and an overnight stay at Karenge Bush Camp.
Day 4: Morning Game Drive & Return to Kigali
Rise early for a final morning game drive from Karenge, when wildlife is most active and the landscape is at its most dramatic. After breakfast, continue through the northern sector of the park, known for excellent predator and large mammal sightings. Exit Akagera via the northern gate and drive back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening for drop-off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport.
End of Tour
The package includes accommodation with one night in Kigali and two nights in Akagera, all meals during the safari with one soft drink per meal, private transportation for four days including fuel, driver, and airport pick-up, park entry fees, southern and northern circuit game drives, a boat safari on Lake Ihema, and a guided night game drive at Karenge.

International or domestic flights, personal expenses such as shopping, snacks, tips, and drinks, travel insurance, optional Kigali city activities, and additional soft or alcoholic drinks at lodges are not included.
